Take a Musical Trip: Salsa

Image
Havana, Cuba Salsa music origination and history     In West Africa during the 1940's and 50's, Afro-Cuban rhythms were rather popular from the Ivory Coast to Benin, Senegal to The Congo. During World War II Senegalese soldiers fighting in France, would bring home recordings from the latest Cuban bands that were playing in Paris. Salsa is said to be one of the most dynamic and important musical phenomena's of the 1900's. Even today it remains the most popular style of dance music in many Hispanic communities. Though the primary component is Cuban dance music, salsa is also a mix of Latin genre. Musical Analysis #2: Does He Love You

Image
Photo Credit:  Taste of Country The song I chose for our second musical analysis is Does He Love You   by Reba McEntire Featuring Dolly Parton.  Does He Love You  was originally released in August of 1993 and featured Linda Davis. The song was written by Billy Stritch and Sandy Knox. The song is about a man who is having an affair and the two women air out their insecurities. They ask questions such as "does he love you like he loves me?" and "does he think of you when he's holding me?"  McEntire asked Parton to participate in the duet for her 2021 album release, Revived Remixed Revisited. In an interview posted on People.com, McEntire mentioned that she had to fax Parton and then have her people fax Parton's people and have them talk and work out the details. She noted that it is impossible to get ahold of Parton any other way. Dynamics An article I found from outsider.com talks about how McEntire and Parton's voices match almost flawlessly. Both wome...

Musical analysis Assignment #1: "Broken" by Seether

Image
The song " Broken" by Seether is a song that I have loved since it first came out in 2002. At first thoughts, the instrumental aspect of the song is what draws me in. The distinct strums from the guitar along with the emotions that you can hear from the artist singing the lyrics are in a way, soothing to me. While I plan to link both versions, I prefer the acoustic simply because I feel like I can gather a better sense of the emotions throughout the song. I can get lost in just the instrumental aspect of the song. You can find the acoustic version  here. Song title: Broken Artist: Seether Release Date: 2002 and later released again in April 2004. Released in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia but hit charts across the world according to  Wikipedia . Lyrics From  Song Facts , the lead singer of Seether, Shaun Morgan, the lyrics which, he wrote himself and how hard it is to leave someone behind. Sha un wrote  ""I wrote it two-and-a-half years ago for...

Most recently, I have enjoyed taking my kids to the indoor trampoline park. I also have a 4yr old yorkie mix named Mocha. For my photos, I decided to share three. One of my three kids and I this past May (2022) in Seward. I also shared a photo of my dog that was taken this past December, along with a photo of the northern lights I took at some point and just happened to have on my computer. When it comes to music, I grew up listening to country music. I was very closed off to any other genre u...
